Is the Swisscom wallplug-to-router cable a crossover cable?

Hello,

Swisscom provides a cable to connect the router to the wall telephone plug. It's a cable with purple connectors. Is this a crossover Ethernet cable? A neighbor needs to buy a 5-meter one and she told me that apparently Swisscom doesn't have these available, so I'll need to buy this at MediaMarkt or some similar place, but I wanted to be sure.

What puzzles me is that I've tested the cable above with a cable tester and only pins 3, 4, 5, 6 light up. In a true crossover cable the pins straight-connected are supposed to be 4, 5, 7, 8.

It's a cable for DSL (telephony).

Why do you need a crossover cable? Most modern switches/routers are auto-sensing.

Hi,

It's not a DSL telephony cable (with RJ-11 connectors). It's a Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connectors.

I'm aware that most modern network appliances do auto MDI-X negotiation, but the Swisscom router apparently doesn't: I've tried to use a straight-through Ethernet cable to connect it to the wall plug and it did not work.

Is your neighbour a DSL subscriber? I'm puzzled as to what you want to connect the router to?

@devnull The white cable with the purple RJ45 plugs is only suitable for connecting the XDSL connection (telephone/router) (XDSL cable).
As you correctly determined, the PINs 4+5 are used for the transmission of the XDSL signal to the router.
The PINs 3+6 for feeding back the telephony signal from the router to the fixed network installation in the house/apartment.

She just subscribed to Swisscom DSL but the supplied cable is too short. She needs a 5-meter one.

That's a 10m cable, but it will fit my needs.
