Incorrect order of community posts when logged in.

  • I’ve noticed several times in the last few days that posts here in the community are mixed up wildly when I’m logged in.

    Is this still the case for other users?

    When I log out the order seems to be correct, when I log in again it’s all mixed up again.

    Example

    [https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/My-Swisscom-Login/0900-Numbers-unblock-Swisscom/td-p/483728](https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/My-Swisscom- Login/0900-number-unblock-Swisscom/td-p/483728)

    Logged in

    Clearly wrong order (date) and how can post 4 reply to post 17?

    Screenshot_20220819-113804_Chrome.jpg

    Logged out

    Order seems correct.

      I re-synchronized your profile, is it better for you now?

    Posts marked as solved (there can be more than one) are copied to the front by the system, i.e. listed immediately after the first post.

    This should help a later reader not have to read the entire thread.

    • Doc likes that.

    @hed @Doc

    You are right, the example I chose is not ideal.

    I also suspected that I was just confused with the solutions, but when I copied it, the article number was retained.

    However, the behavior also occurs with posts that have no solutions.

    Is Jüre’s number shown as #4 in the linked thread or someone else?

      Hello Stauldoteiy82

      For me the order is correct. Regardless of whether I am logged in or logged out, the same post from jüre is displayed under #4.

      But something is still wrong with your ad. When I look at the first screenshot, post (3 of 22) and (4 of 22) they have different numbers for me (17 of 22) and (19 of 22) WalterB
      Post (18 of 22) is not shown on your screenshot at all.

      Possibly There’s something wrong with your browser.

      I’ll try to create the same screenshot as possible:

      Thanks @ThomasS I could have written you a DM straight away 🙂

      What happens during this synchronization and can I trigger it myself if the problem occurs again?

      Now when logged in it looks like @Stephan_76 and the others. Thank you for briefly testing it.

      You could have, but that’s how it was seen…😉

      No, you can’t do that yourself, but you don’t have to, because this was about a setting that was changed, but which we no longer offer, i.e. can no longer be changed.

      4 days later

      I know the problem and am affected by it myself.

      It always bothered me that in long threads that I’ve been following for a long time, I always had to first scroll down/then select the highest page number/then scroll back to the bottom to get to the latest posts.

      When logged in, I used the option in the user settings to switch the post order back and forth between “oldest first” and “newest first” if necessary.

      The standard setting (if you are not logged in or have not changed (or changed back) anything in the settings) is “oldest post first”:

      - Post 1 by N is the very first question/problem description.

      - Then the best answer/solution follows (duplicate of post X of N).

      - And then the further comments, posts 2, 3,…, will be numbered chronologically.

      - Post N of N is the most recent.

      - For “Reply to post…” the number of posts is correct (chronologically).

      But the switch hasn’t worked for some time now.

      User setting “Sort” (or equivalent):

      - Still there for a while, but with no new/old alternative

      - completely disappeared today.

      And now when I’m logged in I find myself stuck in the “newest post first” variant.

      Not so tragic. Actually.

      But the numbering of the posts in this sorting variant is WRONG compared to the chronological one:

      - The most recent post appears at the top of the first page, but is called “1 of N”, but the correct entry would be “N of N”

      - The oldest one, at the bottom of the last page, is called “N of N” instead of “1 of N”

      - For “Reply to post X”, however, the number of posts X is correct (chronologically)

      ---——————–

      But now when I want to reference another comment while replying, I have problems.

      When logged in, I can no longer toggle between old/new first.

      In order to determine the chronologically correct post number, I have to log out, write down the number, and log in again so that I am identified with my user name instead of Anonymous.

      Or I have to calculate the correct number: N-X (and then log out and log in to verify that the calculation is correct).

      Or I can provide the timestamp of the post.

      Current example: I would now like to quote from a comment from @ThomasS.

      - “Post 2 or 8 of 9”?

      - Reply to post 7 (correct!)

      - So it should be more like “Post 8 of 9”. Log out: This is correct.

      Or I could write: ‘At <timestamp> ThomasS wrote: “blabla”’.

      Only: The current timestamp is “Saturday”, so it is still relative (formerly: “Today”, “Yesterday”).

      I could wait with my contribution or my theories until its time stamp becomes absolute, or I could explicitly add “Date: August 20, 2022” in my text now so that other readers can orientate themselves better later.

      [And because the timestamp of my post is also first obfuscated as today/yesterday/Thursday, I’ll add my own absolute stamp :

      When written: Thursday, August 25, 2022, 01:15 CEST=UTC+2. In the case]

      [What happened to the good old time?]

      ---——————————

      @ThomasS

      On “Saturday”, August 20, 2022, you wrote in post 8(?) of 9, reply to post 7:

      “… this was about a setting that was changed, but which we no longer offer, i.e. can no longer be changed….”

      Does this statement agree with my findings described above (Toggle Settings)?

      I can live without the toggle feature, I’d rather have consistent, coherent numbering.

      I would be very happy if you would synchronize my profile like @Stauldoteiy82.

      Thanks, George

      @Ctrl+Alt+Del

      Thank you very much for your comments. First of all, I have synchronized your profile settings. Should be correct now.

      I can also give you the following points:

      • It is correct that sort order is no longer offered. In our logic (as you have noticed), it has repeatedly led to problems.
      • For the relative timestamp (today, tomorrow, etc.) you can simply hover over it and always see the absolute date/time stamp.
      • If you click reply to a specific post, your reply will then show which post your reply relates to in the top right corner
      • If you click on replies to a specific post, you can then use the “Quote post” option in the editor options to automatically quote the previous post in your post (and if necessary, shorten it if you only want to quote a passage from it
      • If you want to refer to other users, you can also mention them with @ and then the user’s input. This also means that the user receives a notification. The same thing also works with other posts if you type in the title.
      • You don’t need to manually insert an italic ending regarding sarcasm etc. If you always want to have this on your posts, you can add a signature in the profile settings, which will always be added at the bottom. A little tip by the way, keep it as short as possible, less is more 😉

      I hope I could help.

      @Ctrl+Alt+Del you have the setting under [https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/user/myprofilepage/tab/user-preferences:display](https://community.swisscom.ch/t5 /user/myprofilepage/tab/user-preferences:display) to relative or absolute?

      As a test, I switched from ratio data (e.g. three hours ago) to absolute, which is probably how you want it.

      The disadvantage is that it is only accurate to the day and, in contrast to Relative, is not accurate to the hour (first 24 hours after publication) or to the minute (60 minutes after publication).

      Addendum: The first minute after posting it is even accurate to the second. So you have a benchmark for your own contributions as to how long the forum solution currently takes to publish 😇

      @Stauldoteiy82

      Thank you! Your post came just in time! I had just noticed that the timestamps had changed to YYYY-MM-DD (in your case with the time).

      I didn’t notice the date setting… until now, but it’s now set to absolute (previously apparently ratio…). I assume as a result of intervention by @ThomasS.

      Absolutely, YYYY-MM-DD is ideal for me.

      @ThomasS

      Thank you for the synchronization and the valuable tips.

      The order is now consistent. And @Stauldoteiy82 introduced me to the ‘Show dates as’ setting.

      It’s ironic that the problem only appeared to me when I wanted to make a comment with reference to several posts using Ctrl+Alt+Del.

      And it’s sad when a useful feature is killed instead of corrected. The customer is a court jester.

      Hopefully this doesn’t happen with other features too.
