RTLup and VOXup why not in HD

I’ll ask a question that will probably interest a lot of people. Why can’t the two channels RTLup and VOXup operated by the RTL Group also be received in HD on blue TV? Small providers such as B. Teleboy has had the channels in HD for ages.

Is it because there is no Swiss window for these channels yet?

My research has shown that it could really be the case that the major providers in CH, including Sunrise/UPC, only offer the channels in HD when there is a Swiss version, i.e. a CH advertising window and from [Goldbach Group](https ://goldbach.com/ch/de/portfolio/tv/sender) (private TV stations) is marketed.

Although Swisscom could save even more. The majority of people don’t need HD either; SD is still sufficient for a long time. When I see the size of the TVs and the seating distance, there is hardly anything left of HD.

And yet everyone is screaming for 4k and 8k devices are already selling quite well. And there are also the first samples from 16k TV. The show must go on, regardless of whether you need it and how much of a burden it is on the environment.

The new televisions are 4K and if you use them correctly, a 4K picture is a win, especially with HDR.

8K is not yet a big hit. Tests have proven that there is no big gain in the picture.

But, we’re just the odd ones out.

@snowmanch Normally 4K is the standard when you buy a television these days. 8K and more only makes sense at 100 inches, but rather at 120 inches and more. But the content with content in 8K is still missing, so it’s more like marketing posturing. Why e.g. B. Samsung sold 8K TV with 55 inches is a mystery to me…

Why do smartphones with 6.5 inch screens have up to 4k resolution and handycams up to 108 MP? Since the limits of perception by the human eye have been reached, it has only been about marketing, sales, profit and prestige.

@hed For cell phone cams, 108 MP makes a little more sense, but only for bad photographers who want to keep a fraction/excerpt of an image afterwards, otherwise it’s really all marketing.
