Swisscom Summer Hunt: Virtual ice cream hunt

The Swisscom Summer Hunt starts today, where you can collect virtual ice cream in Swiss cities and win cool prizes. This is how the ice cream hunt works: Go to the website swisscom.ch/summerhunt with your mobile phone to start the game. You will find the first ice cream right there. The second ice cream is hidden in your nearest town. And you can find the third ice cream around the 116 Swisscom shops in Switzerland. You can see exactly where the virtual ice creams are hidden on the map in the Summer Hunt Wallet on your smartphone. The scavenger hunt between the virtual and real world works thanks to technologies such as blockchain and augmented reality.

If you have successfully caught three ice creams, with a bit of luck, prizes worth over CHF 50,000 await you. For example, a Play Station 5, an LG OLED TV with a 55-inch display, an iRobot Roomba i7 and many surprise prizes. You can collect your winnings directly from your nearest Swisscom shop. The promotion runs until August 29, 2021.

What do you think of the upcoming Summer Hunt? Have you already had your first experiences with virtual reality? Share your experiences with the community, we look forward to your comment!

@CorinaS

On my iPhone, “Location Error” appears below the map and “Drop” is grayed out.

Anyway, what I think of the campaign:

I fear that many “ice cream hunters” are “hunting” around the area in their cars and that can’t be in the spirit of a sustainable Swisscom, can it?

I would rather welcome it if Swisscom would finally spend a few francs to give a gift to existing customers who have been loyal to Swisscom for decades. But that probably doesn’t have enough advertising effectiveness and you won’t win any new customers with it.

I tried again with the PC (had an idea to cheat) - but my browser cannot be used there. Although I use the latest Edge on Windows 11 😐

On the S21 the problem seems to be with the AR feature. I get the message: “There are no vatoms near you on the map.”. Nothing is shown on the map either. This also seems to be a missing location record perhaps?

It doesn’t work for me on the PC because the PC doesn’t transmit a location.

It looks like the iPhone isn’t sending any location to the game either, hence the error message.

Identical error message also on the Samsung tablet.

@Herby

At least Swisscom has all the information from its own customers anyway, so it doesn’t matter if you provide the mobile number.

@Herby

If you have deactivated the options in KuCe, SC is not allowed to use the data or use it for third parties, but SC still has the data including the Verbindungsdaten and movement profiles.

@CorinaS two comments about the actually good application. After the update a few hours ago, the usability works much better.

  • Is there a bug bounty with this tool? 🙃😉
  • I had a “full card” earlier. However, to see if I won I had to go to a Swisscom shop. Wait 25 minutes and then no profit. It’s a bit annoying. Can’t this be displayed directly on the client without scanning the QR code in the shop?

@DomiP

Presumably the goal of the game is to attract as many people as possible to a shop during the summer lull. And that’s not possible if the winnings are displayed directly on the client.

@hed

Sure, but especially in the shops in the Bernese Oberland the shop is already so crowded with all the oriental tourists who want a SIM. Then this one, with the ice cream game?

Where should the rest of the customers go? Let off steam in the community? đŸ€”

That’s true again
 I was also asked directly whether I was an SC customer and whether the MA should see whether something could be ‘optimized’

Let’s see what time brings
 I was able to collect almost 35 ice creams now, let’s see if there’s anything in the shop tomorrow đŸ€Ł

Good luck, I opted out because I don’t take part in such “farmer trappings” as a matter of principle and I don’t have the time for such publicity stunts.

If you get the LG TV, you can then immediately confirm that it was definitely the one that was actually for my sister to take out the new subscription to the Swisscom campaign. She didn’t get one because Swisscom didn’t have any TVs anymore 😉

6 days later

@Stauldoteiy82 The Summerhunt is based on technology from https://www.vatom.com/ possibly the individual ice creams are part of these wallets and are used as NTFs submitted.

I don’t understand the meaning behind it. Had almost 35 ice creams after about 15 minutes in town. These are now in the wallet but they can no longer be used
