Then there is a simple solution for you:

Go to Kundencenter and enter your existing mailbox password as a new mailbox password on the affected mailbox.

Then you try again with the new iPad, which should work.

At the end you try with the other devices and if the other devices can no longer access you, you will then have to briefly re-enter the new/old password (if this is necessary, then not just for the mailbox, but also at the same time for the SMTP server)

    @meggempr

At the link below the setup process is specific to Apple and remember the password is not the one from WEB-Mail and Kundencenter.

If you have forgotten it you have to create a new one in your Kundencenter.

Thanks for the tip, but with my IPHONE SE or an older IPAD the adjustment to IMAP worked perfectly before. I have a user account with a password for Bluewin and a password for webmail. I don’t think this is a password problem, there would have been a different error message.

    Kind regards

Clarification of the previous answer: I have a user account with a password at Swisscom and a password for my email address (webmail) at Bluewin. The Bluewin installation procedure on the IPAD requires the password for the email address. I cannot make any adjustments manually until the installation has taken place.

    Kind regards

I set up several iPads and iPhones according to the instructions and it worked without any problems. It is important that you follow the instructions exactly, point by point, even if it looks tricky.

N.b. always had to use the special password for external email programs.

    The link requires handwork.

    @WalterB

    Thank you for the information.

The installation procedure on the iPad looks like this:

    My name:……

    E-mail address:……..

    Password:………

The response is the standard IMAP settings with the comment that the IMAP server does not support password authentication. This is a fresh install on a new IPAD Pro and I can’t change anything manually. I was able to do this with the IPHONE and the older IPAD and that’s why I know what needs to be changed.

    Kind regards

Unfortunately I still have the same problem:

The ‘New Account’ section asks the following questions, which I answer as follows:

    Name: Peter Rudin

    Email: *Email placeholder*

    Password: xxxxxxxxxxx

Note: This is my email password and not the password I use for my Swisscom customer account

The system then automatically fills in the description: Bluewin

After ‘Continue’ I get the following message:

The IMAP server “imaps.bluewin.ch” does not support password authentication. Check your account settings and try again.

    I receive the following information:

    Server for incoming emails

    Host name: imaps.bluewin.ch

    Username: [*E-Mail placeholder*](mailto: E-Mail placeholder )

    Password: xxxxxxxxxxx

    Outgoing email server

    Host name: smtpauths.bluewin.ch

    Username: [*E-Mail placeholder*](mailto: E-Mail placeholder )

    Password:xxxxxxxxx

Note: I cannot change anything about these entries

If I then press ‘Continue’ again I get the message “Connection via SSL impossible” and asks if I want to try to set up the account without SSL. If I say “yes” the message comes:

The IMAP server “imaps.bluewin.ch” is not responding. Check your network connection and that you have entered the correct information under “Incoming email server”.

    My final comment:

As mentioned earlier, the settings correspond to those of my iPhone and my older iPad. I was able to make the changes myself when switching to IMAP because the Bluewin mail account was already installed. I have no influence on the current procedure, which is completely logical, i.e. I can’t change anything.

According to information from @meggempr, it is no longer possible with the new iPad 2021** to enter the data individually as with the older models.

This worked well for the older models using the link below.

    Feedback just arrived:

This problem is currently not known. However, the specialists will continue to monitor it. If anything turns out, we will of course inform you. However, please check again whether the correct password was actually used. The servers are entered correctly so far.

If you’re still keen to test, here’s a concrete suggestion, as the Bluewin mailboxes are sometimes a bit bitchy when it comes to passwords.

If you still have one free in your Bluewin account, open an additional Bluewin email address and choose a relatively simple password of 9-12 characters, purely alphanumeric without special characters, for example:

1234A67b9 (of course it can be even more original)

Then try setting it up again on the new iPad with the new mailbox and the banal password.

Thank you for the tip. I did it and it worked perfectly. So the question remains why this doesn’t work with my main email address? By the way, when I tested another email address, I used the same password that I used for my main address and it still worked.

Question: Where can I check what my existing email password is without having to change it?

    Thank you for the support

Unfortunately, email passwords can no longer be seen in Kundencenter. 😞

The “unfortunately” definitely has to be deleted from the text, because the fact that Swisscom saved the mailbox password in plain text for so long so that it could be shown to users again was actually a major security breach to the detriment of all mailbox users .

For years, it has been the general security concept of all really security-conscious providers that passwords are only stored as a mathematically encrypted pure hash value on the provider’s servers (for IT insiders: Of course, the hash value should also be stored before physical storage additionally “salted and peppered”).

Since in a secure system the provider no longer knows the password in plain text, he can of course no longer display or send it as a consequence.

Systems that are currently still able to display existing passwords in plain text and can also be accessed via the Internet should no longer be used as a user, because that means nothing other than the provider is not up to date in terms of security State of the art.

That’s true, of course, but in this case it’s about solving a problem where it’s not entirely clear why the problem exists. I have no problem with the iPhone or the older iPad and I have never changed anything in the existing password. So before I start changing passwords with all the consequences, I want to be sure that the problem doesn’t lie somewhere else.

As already mentioned, I set up an optional Bluewin address under my Swisscom customer account today, using the same password as I use for my main email address, and the installation on the IPAD worked perfectly.

    Dear Swisscom Community,

The problem is solved, thanks to the various tips that led to this inexplicable problem being solved through experimentation, according to the motto ‘trying is better than studying’. The other devices (i-phone and an older i-pad) complained about the password, but after the adjustment on the device, a reinstallation was not necessary. I am an intensive user of Bluewin Webmail, all of my research and publication work is done via Bluewin (see also www.singularity2030.ch) and am therefore very happy, now also with the new one I-PAD to be able to work.

So thank you again everyone and have a nice weekend
