UHD test not always successful

  • Hello everyone.

When I do the UHD test, the bottom one is always red, so not all devices are connected to a proper HDMI cable.

I use an HDMI Premium cable 1m Club 3D Premium High Speed (4K UHD 3840×2160p 60Hz) for the Swisscom Box to the receiver.

    Receiver Yamaha RX-6VA

Swisscom Box UHD the first version without a voice assistant.

The original Swisscom HDMI cable is the connection from the receiver to the TV (as it is longer)

On the TV LG 4k UHD the setting is set to isf dark mode.

When I switch everything on, UHD is usually not possible until after that

The Swisscom Box is restarted and then everything together is switched off and on again, UHD is 90% possible, sometimes the TV box needs to be restarted again.

Does anyone have similar experiences, I suspect that the Swisscom Box has an error because when I test the cables via Apple TV 4k it shows me everything is OK.

    • First of all, thank you very much for your numerous answers. I’ve saved a time offset in the Harmony and so far it’s working… I’ll keep an eye on it. I have had version 1.26 on the Update Receiver since January 26, 2021.

I think it should be current.

    Hello @Mapaupef25

Simply connect the UHD STB directly to the TV. and test the whole thing again.
Now is it better without the AVR in between?
Or do you still have the problems.

To ensure that the UHD STB actually passes the test, the EDID data of the connected devices is checked here.
And currently for you these are the AVR and the TV.
Although your AVR is a great new 2021 model, correct?

If the UHD STB runs better directly on the TV, then it could also be due to the AVR/TV combo.

A possible workaround would also be to use the TV-Box directly on the TV and then pass on the sound to the AVR via HDMI-ARC.

HDR is set correctly on the TV and AVR? It should actually be like that, since it happens every now and then.
Normally the insertion order should not play a role.
But my tip would be to start the TV first, then the AVR and finally the TV.
Hopefully this will receive the correct EDID data.

Or do you perhaps have another HDMI cable to test from the TV box to the AVR?

    Hello @Mapaupef25

Uhh yes your AVR is so new and from 2021, hopefully this device will be a great thing.
But according to the Yamaha website, another AVR firmware update is coming out with a lot of new functions for the HDMI interface.

Which HDMI input did you connect the UHD box to?
According to the data sheet these inputs are HDMI 1-3 which can then be 8k…

    (8K60B, 4K120AB (via future update)*HDMI1-3)

Can you test what happens if you use the HDMI interface that is not 1-3?
Will it get better then? Or is the UHD box not at such an input anyway?

    Hello @Mapaupef25

There is some good information about your AVR here:
    http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-276-8707-5.html

Since the AVR already has HDMI 2.1 (8k/60Hz or 4k/120Hz) on it and there is the HDMI 2.1 bug in many AVRs that have now published HDMI 2.1 without final CTS tests for HDMI 2.1 for AVRs, I am still curious how Yamaha wants to solve the customer’s problem.

Since the HDMI 2.1 bug probably cannot be fixed via a firmware update…

Actually, a new device / HDMI board should be delivered that correctly supports HDMI 2.1…
but that would probably be a disaster for many AVR manufacturers.

Denon/Marantz is also affected by the HDMI 2.1 bug.
I hope there will be more information about Denon/Marantz on February 19th, 2021:

    Hello @Mapaupef25

Check the FW on your AVR again.
Because I get version 1.31 on our Yamaha AVR.
Or I put a test device into operation today and saw that FW 1.31/3.06 was available on the AVR itself and I was able to install this version via AVR over the Internet.

Next week I’ll test some Swisscom blueTV boxes on the AVR myself to see what the situation is with the UHD HDR mode in my setup Swisscom BlueTV IP1400 / IP2000 -> Yamaha AVR RX-V6A -> Sony OLED AF9 TV.
