if you need it yes, otherwise not necessary.

WLAN: Wireless Local Area Network. Wireless local network using radio waves to ensure the circulation of information between machines (computers or peripherals) thus linked together.

@Diablotin’s answer is correct, but it leaves the question open: Do I need it?

In your case the WLAN could be used to connect the mobile phone to the home with its Wifi connection which is ‘normally’ faster and does not consume mobile data volume.
