Swisscom has announced that EntertainmentOS 4.0 will be available for all UHD boxes from the beginning of January 2020. Normal HD boxes will remain excluded.

This discussion was already underway in the German section - many people thought there was still some time left for the start of the year.

I think it will be the end of March at the latest, because not all devices will be updated at the same time and it is possible that tests will first be carried out in different cantons (like BE or ZH).

There are some things you should keep in mind when dealing with this question:

Swisscom had never talked about the upgrade playing on all devices in January! We were only talking about the beginning of 2020 - in development that usually means January to March or even April!

Then, we must also remember that EntertainmentOS 4.0 was in fact mainly developed for the new Swisscom television box. Since the system architecture, interfaces and other hardware elements between the new box and the UHD box are fundamentally different, many elements of the source code of the old hardware still need to be adapted. In addition to numerous tests, it also requires a lot of time.

Finally, I would like to emphasize that Swisscom should not run the upgrade on all devices at the same time! If Swisscom follows a concept like Microsoft’s, the latest devices could theoretically be put into operation by the end of the year.

That’s why I advise you to wait and drink tea!

I have the various new (2020) devices and the maximum Swisscom offer and everything still does not work according to the published offers.

In addition, no employee (store, telephone or technical) knows how to use them, let alone configure them. The majority of them do not know that the voice system is supposed to control the lights or even turn the TVs on and off.

But it really doesn’t work.

Ask for a demo and you will see… nothing.

Swisscom = liar!

My little testimony to calm the impatience when OS 4.0 of Swisscom TV is made available on UHD boxes. Give Swisscom time to correct the bugs present and impacting the new TV Box. It is indeed common to have to turn it off and on again to recover some semblance of brain life; I do no less than 3-4 restarts per week. It is also not uncommon to find yourself with a box that restarts by itself (crash=) when Netflix exits….

A nice concept, a beautiful graphic presentation; but it’s not yet dry… I therefore understand that Swisscom avoids generating a wave of dissatisfaction and complaints by releasing a Beta++ version of their OS too quickly. It’s like being at “Free” (French operator); but for 3 to 4x the price.

And continue to pay full price!?

To turn on the TV just say Hey Swisscom….turn on the TV and the same thing to turn it off

Hey Swisscom —– Turn off the TV. For me it works well.

I’m not an adept user of this technology, it’s just funny.

I only use the on off button on the remote control, these are simply faster!

To turn on or extend the light, what brand of connected devices do you use?

The lights are Philips Hue and the TV is a Sony A1.

For Philips I don’t know too bad, for connection devices from the Mystrom brand yes.

Ah for the TV it is only valid if you have set a single remote control to Swisscom TV to turn on the UHD box and the television. To summarize, the white Swisscom remote control turns the TV on and off with a single remote control.

Once the two devices are combined with the white Swisscom TV remote control, you can ask it with your voice to turn it on with “Hey Swisscom…turn on the TV” etc.
