Configure a NORDVPN connection directly in the internetBox 2

Good morning,

I would like to configure a NORDVPN connection directly in the internetBox 2, but I cannot find the settings to change.

Could you tell me where they are in the menus? I already switched to expert mode and I didn’t see anything

Best regards,

It’s nice but it’s not what I want.

I would like to configure a VPN client not a VPN server.

I don’t want to connect ON the box, but FROM the box on a VPN.

The goal was to have the whole house on VPN… It’s still sad that Swisscom restricts the router so much…
Even my Samsung TV allows me to do this…

@SirRagde Hello

I don’t understand your intervention because there is absolutely nothing to configure on the router. As you indicate, television allows you to use it and where does internet traffic go through? via the internet box.

You must download the NORDVPN application for PC or Mac on your computer.

Once connected via the NORDVPN program, you choose the server where there are the fewest people connected to have a correct speed.
You have several PCs or other machines such as cell phone or television. Each machine that you want to connect by VPN must have the program for it to work.

Cordialement

I would qualify the comment by saying that I understand the request to have a single place where NordVpn is configured rather than having to install the clients on all the machines for which a client exists. But the Internet Box 2 does not allow VPN in client mode, this may be part of future developments; but I doubt it because these are “general public” products which risk opening up the functionalities too much and generating a mess of support requests for configuration errors made by somewhat “clumsy” users.

I would instead recommend using a router behind the Internet Box with a NordVPN client installed and setting this router as the default gateway for devices for which you would like to pass traffic through the VPN. I suggest not putting everything through the VPN due to bandwidth issues.

Good morning,

There would be a solution, it is to change the router with a dedicated software for this…

But these are routers with linux operating system (tomato in general)

Otherwise, you have the solution of having a PC which serves as a VPN client as indicated above, and you redirect all your outgoing traffic with this PC as the default gateway.

But you need a PC that runs strong for this… and in the event of a VPN outage, you have nothing to tell you that your internet traffic no longer goes through this PC.

I understand the request, because I too want to do this, to go further:
Hide the IP of the Swisscom internetBox so that I cannot be ejected by the TeamViewer services, which is currently the case from any device in the household which, inevitably, all go through the same route External IP of the router!!

several browsers have integrated a free VPN: for example Opera

Free VPN | Browser with built-in VPN | Download | Opera

Free VPN in Opera browser. Surf the Internet with enhanced privacy.

Opera offers Built-in VPN service for its Chromium-based desktop browser (for Windows, MacOS and Linux) and app* *Android** custom. It also recently released a VPN browser designed for gamers, called Opera GX.

for an integrated VPN see also browsers: Epic Privacy, UR Browser, Tenta Browser.

Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox do not come with a built-in VPN, Microsoft Edge or Safari either for that matter.

On the other hand, you can use the browser extension offered by certain VPN services like those you will find in Firefox or Chrome

@SirRagde, your TV allows you to create a VPN, like your PC, like all smartphones…

you will know that NO ISP router allows the direct installation of a direct VPN on it for exit!

PS: there are solutions for this, but it’s not 100% reliable, you can’t see if the VPN is connected or not, but don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and know Linux^^ ABE

PS2: NordVPN, like many other apps allow the installation of several apps on the same account, go install the app on all devices! 😛

Hi @SirRagde,

I’m taking a look at the IB3 that I received, but which I don’t plan to install at home…

Regarding your subject, you may or may not have changed your router in the meantime, but on the IB2, it must be the same!

At the bottom of the page, you have an “open source” link where you can see that the OS of the box is in LINUX so yes, you could put your nordvpn parameters directly in (in theory) provided you completely overhaul the OS from swisscom…

Afterwards, the legal side of the reworking or flashing on the hardware of their OS, would have to be seen… But it remains tinkering, and in all cases, the problem of this kind of procedure, it is risky of 1, and if the VPN goes down, nothing will tell you!
