Swapping from Internetbox Plus to Internetbox 2 - g.fast problem

  • Hello everyone

The speed test between my router and the “Internet” has been showing around 67Mbit/s for months, but according to Swisscom’s checker (since recently) 450Mbit/s should be possible. So far I have received the Internetbox Plus and 4 days ago a g.fast SFP module and connected it too, but I couldn’t connect to the Internet with it. But connecting the purple connector worked. (possibly g.fast module broken?) According to the hotline, I was advised to switch to Internetbox 2 because I don’t need a g.fast module there.

I’ve been using it for 3 days now and the speed hasn’t improved. Still max. 67 Mbit/s as before. I was also told to wait at least 2 days until the speed was adjusted. Now 3 are over.

Should I wait any longer or do you have any idea what to do?

    Thanks and regards Mike

P.S. Attached are the values of my Internet box 2

    • I would call the hotline (again) and ask whether your Anschluss has already been switched to g.fast. It looks like not yet. This is the only way you can get rid of speculation, because no one here in the forum has direct access to the Swisscom system.

When calling the hotline, it shouldn’t matter whether today is Sunday and/or tomorrow is December 24th.

In expert mode you should actually see the connection type.

Does it say g.Fast or VDSL2?

This is what it looks like with g.Fast:503FEF01-A623-42D7-A1C7-9FCE0D3ABA3D.png

If you still have the VDSL2 connection type, Swisscom has not yet activated g,Fast on your Anschluss.

By the way, it took me about 3 weeks in the summer because it was the World Cup at the time and Swisscom therefore had an internal blocking period for switching over the mCANs.

Who knows, it’s the holidays right now, so maybe another “Frozen Zone” for g.Fast activations…

The hotline’s diagnosis was wrong, because changing the router was actually unnecessary, but if you at least got a free IB2, just consider it a Christmas present, because the IB2 is really the better router overall.

One morning, when exactly no one will be able to tell you, you will see the higher g.Fast sync values and be able to use the larger bandwidths.
