Internet Box integrated speed test does not work

  • Hello everyone

I am using the Internet Box with FW 09.02.08. During the integrated speed test I noticed the following: Run once = ok. Run twice = sometimes it works. From the third test at the latest it no longer works and the message “Speedtest server not accessible - The Speedtest server on the Internet is currently not accessible. Please try again later.”

The only thing that helps is to restart the IB.

Does anyone have this phenomenon too?

    Best regards

This is a screenshot from the current beta 10.00.44. You can do that [here](https://www.swisscom.ch/de/privatkunden/hilfe/internet/firmware-aktualisierungen-fuer-ihre-intern et-box.html#T=0d575c79-b14a-4abe-991e-677babc95000&TS=09dWoyneSI47hHizrcle73BoSuyTemDeatxT9_QLGW4&tab=1) download, almost at the bottom of the page under “Beta”.

Looks okay again. The test on the network is quite good (Vivo M on copper), the other test from the PC on the Internet box is a little less so, but that is probably because I am currently using the Internet Box plus and it is no longer quite as fit as the IB2 . But the result is much more realistic for me than with the 9 version.

      Greetings, Thomas

    Great!:smile_sweat:

Another speed test is not an alternative for me at the moment. I only have WLAN clients, so the test won’t be right away… As someone without wired devices, the IB Speedtest is already very useful.

Can I enter this bug somewhere? Is Swisscom reading this?

    2 months later

Experience shows that you can hope for 6 to a maximum of 9 months.

After the usual lead time for a Swisscom error correction and if the error has still not been corrected, the affected element is then either removed, declared normal, or redefined as a new feature…

If for the connection between PC and IB 761 or 750 Mbps is displayed, so that’s not very realistic.

Any cheap PC (even one that’s been around for a few years) can achieve a net throughput of 940 Mbps. But at least a greater than (>) is placed in front of the values.

To be honest, it is not clear to me why correct measurement/display should not be possible with the IB and/or the browser for resource reasons. With an IPerf engine, for example, this can be measured very precisely and displayed in the browser without a lot of computing power.

@hed I know:winking:, measured values do not agree 100% consistent with reality. I can get almost 1Gbit/s in the home network.

Because of the measurement accuracy of high speeds, there was something with flash… Apparently it’s not that easy to implement without it. I don’t have the IB2 online at the moment, so I can’t compare whether it’s better/more accurate. In any case, the current speed test is much closer to reality than before (it gave me 180/500)…

Yes, it has already been said that the browser is because of the Flash plug-in. the plugin itself is not able to measure such high speeds.

I wonder who comes up with the idea of measuring data throughput with the browser itself or a plugin in it. As I said, there are enough speed measurement engines for Gig Ethernet, IPerf is one of them. The browser is only needed as a GUI, nothing more.

@hed: We differentiate between two parts of the speed test:

    • Internet Speed: Speed between Internet Box and Internet. Here we measure using a speed test service from the Internet Box (comparable to iperf).
    • Home network speed: Speed between the device and the Internet box. Here we measure using the browser based on HTML5. In order for a Speedtest engine to be used for this, the customer would have to manually install software.

    @MichelB

Thank you very much for the clarification. A follow-up question:

How do services such as speedtest.net manage to measure up to 940 Mbps with a 1000/1000 Anschluss (=max. achievable net rate on a Giga link) without additional software?

Unfortunately, I can’t test this myself because I don’t have a quick Anschluss, but I’ve already seen corresponding screenshots and assume they weren’t fakes.
