Fixed IP address for private customers

  • Good day

I am a student and as part of my thesis I would like to host my own website. Hence my question as to whether it is possible as a private customer to get a fixed IP.

    Greeting

    Sebi

    • However, you can take out an SME subscription as a private customer

The safest, cheapest and least expensive way is to go to a provider and have them do the hosting. I am on Hoststar.ch with 2 clubs and pay 5.90/month each. You don’t have to worry about backups and CMS like Drupal, Joomla, WordPress can be installed with one click.

But if you still want to have your own server, you can also enter a dynamic DNS provider at Centro Grande (e.g. Dyn.com). When you change your own IP, the provider’s DNS entry is updated. Costs $108/2 years at Dyn.com. In addition, there is domain name registration, which is usually also offered by the host, for 15 euros per year.

Swisscom is completely rubbish when it comes to offering static IPs.

All other providers (MHS, 1a-speed, GGA, Cablecom, etc.) also offer these for private customers from CHF 7.

At Swisscom this has to be solved here:

    [https://www.swisscom.ch/de/business/kmu/it-cloud/netzwerk/business-network-solutions.html](https://www.swisscom.ch/de/business/kmu/it- cloud/netzwerk/business-network-solutions.html)

In addition to the 10 CHF for the IP, there is also the Business Network Solution package for 60 CHF.

So the costs are already around 70.-

Then all other offers/packages for telephony and television are much more expensive than for private customers.

Our subscription (currently 110 CHF) would be more than twice as expensive for the same service + static IP.

They couldn’t help me either in the chat or on the phone until I found the product myself.

I laughed on the phone with support about how terrible the offer was.

Yes, as a private customer as mentioned here you cannot have fixed IPs. But with today’s routers you can easily set up DynDNS. So your plan should work without any problems.

Regarding IP address. Of course you can order the Rolls Royces (SBCON). But you can already have fixed IPs with the inOneKMU. BNS is part of the SBCON product; the fixed IP can also be ordered here (even without BNS). Yes for 10 CHF per month.

And honestly, other providers are obviously cheaper. There would have to be a reason not to be with Swisscom.

    Greetings Hitch

So a fixed IP without BNS is possible without any problems, I have it myself…

..and on top of that, Swisscom also prevents DynDNS on devices that do not come from the SME subscription:

You’re wrong there too: DynDNS can be set up without any problems

Yes, well, I got the information from Swisscom support that a fixed IP only works via BNS. (chat and phone)

I got the information from the Swisscom document that at least an SME solution is required for DDNS.

It’s cool that Swisscom itself doesn’t know how to do it.

Can you post a link to this please?

Can’t find anything. The only thing is that there seems to be a service… something from internet-box.ch, but the site doesn’t work for me.

Otherwise everything is full of community.swisscom.ch entries…

The fixed IP can be ordered in the customer center from an SME / business connection, or via the SME hotline.

You can still choose whether one, four or 8 fixed addresses, depending on your needs

Have you activated the Expert mode_ for the view on the Internet box?

Installationen, Netzwerk, Internet, Computertechnik, OS Windows, Apple und Linux.

Do you know the difference between using and needing a static IP or even a subnet compared to using a DDNS service? Because if this is not known, you may not even need to talk about fixed IPs.

At Swisscom you only get static IPs via a PPPoE connection, which is only offered with business products such as inOne SME, Smart Business Connect Internet Services or Smart Business Connect Business Network Solutions (BNS), just to list the current SME products.

Unfortunately, your search led you to BNS, which is not necessary. The information on the hotline surprised me at least a little. I’m actually used to the professionally instructed hotliners being very knowledgeable about products that have been on the market for several years. 😉

By the way, 10 CHF isn’t that much compared to the market. You can expect that prices may even rise. However, the basic costs of their subscriptions are expensive at Swisscom.
