USB infrared adapter for Logitech Harmony remote controls

  • Hello community

I would like to reduce my seemingly endless number of remote controls to one.

I’m now looking for a dongle that I can plug into the SC-Box 2.0 via my USB-Anschluss and that works.

What do you have that you have had good experiences with? (Unfortunately they are no longer available in the shop and so I have to switch to Brack or Digitec.)

The same with the Harmony remote control, which one do you have and why?

    Greetings

    • Hallo zusammen

Ich habe immer noch USB IR Dongles von Swisscom.

If you have the Swisscom TV2 UHD box (white surface), you will find the suitable IR Dongle that is available immediately.

I use the Logitech Harmony Ultimate and control all of my devices. But if I had to buy a new remote control, I would take the revised version Logitech Harmony Elite.

The button layout and handling as well as the battery performance have been improved. It is important that you not only buy the remote control itself, but also that it is available in a bundle with the Harmony Hub. This means that a wide range of devices can be used or trained.

    About the Harmony remote controls:

I have a previous model similar to the Logitech Harmony Elite (for me it still doesn’t have a hub). With this FB, operating the various devices works as expected. Programming the functions using a PC program is easy.

In Kundencenter I first grouped the program order: First the local channels and the SRF programs, then the ARD channels, etc. For each channel group I then defined the first channel on the FB as the favorite (favorite channel). On the touch display of the FB I now select the first station in a group using a station logo, for example CNN, the first station in English. Then it’s time to zap to the other channels in the group. This group selection works well with Harmony remote controls with touch displays.

I regularly use teletext, especially for Swiss programs. And I couldn’t get used to entering numbers via the touch display. The result of this: I usually switched back to the original remote control for teletext!

My conclusion: You should also consider the ergonomics for the universal remote control. How do you use the TV-Box von Swisscom TV 2.0? Zapping programs, searching for programs, loud/quiet, programming recordings, playing recordings, etc… After getting used to it, any user of the original remote control can probably control some of the actions without having to look too closely at the buttons. And the appropriate buttons should be available on the universal remote control for all of these actions.

Alternative: I have now bought the Harmony 650 during a discount campaign. This FB cannot control as many other devices as the Elite models. Favorites are displayed and selected using buttons (no touch display). This means the power consumption is lower and the FB is powered by two AA batteries. You don’t have to put the FB in a charging station regularly, but you could also use batteries. I can also use the teletext well with the number keys. Back to ergonomics: the metal-look casing of the Harmony 650 is certainly not at the top! For example, the Harmony 350 would feel better in the hand.

I can contribute to the discussion here, but I don’t yet know the ideal remote control.

    Hello

I have the HD Box - so I need a dongle with USB-Anschluss.

Is it possible to have the same SCTV menu to change channels?

I find this very practical but I can’t imagine that this would be possible with a Harmony.

    Hi,

The menu remains the same on the SCTV box, regardless of whether it has a USB/IR dongle and Harmony remote control or not.
I have a Harmony Ultimate. The operation of SCTV is therefore more than 95% practically identical and intuitive. The training period and acceptance by the entire family was practically instantaneous. All the important (for us) buttons are on the Harmony Ultimate: Home, Menu, back, channel change up and down, the 4 colored buttons, the control pad, the OK button, skip forward and backward, fast forward and backward, Changing the volume… everything can be easily controlled (I have skipping and rewinding on the same buttons, I simply differentiate between “short press” = skip and “long press” = rewind).

But I also think it has to be the version with hub, as @Rapha86 already said. This eliminates the annoying aiming that is often necessary with IR remote controls without a hub.

If the Harmony is in television mode, each button on the Harmony has the same function as the corresponding button on the original FB (exception: the volume buttons may affect the separate sound part).

You need the FB buttons to operate the SCTV menus, so this also works via the Harmony

I’m really interested in that too!

I recently ordered the Harmony Hub.

I have an HD box in the room and when I ordered the IR dongle, I saw that there was no Anschluss for it.

Do I have to order a UHD box now or is there an option for an HD box?

    Hello everyone

I am also looking for a USB infrared adapter for my new Harmony Elite FB. I have a TV-Box with a black lid. (Purchased about 3 years ago) Don’t want to buy the newest TV box “yet”.

Can anyone help? Thank you in advance.

Swisscom has now implemented the One Remote function.
This means that you can operate corresponding TV devices in the basic functions on-off loud-quiet with the TV2.0 control.
This means that an additional FB for the pure TV function is unnecessary.
However, if you also want to use the TV’s other functions (Smart TV as an example and operate the TV’s own menu), you need this USB-IR dongle. If you want to use a harmony and not the Ori.-TV FB.

This was once available directly from Swisscom. But it seems to have been taken out of the program. You would rather sell the UHD box.
So a platform like Ricardo Duchaus should be helpful.
