Select films from an external NAS on Swisscom TV 2.0 using the Swisscom remote control

I have various films in MPEG4 format on the NAS box.

Now I want to connect the NAS to the Swisscom standard router via Ethernet. The aim is to control an app in Swisscom TV with Swisscom TV 2.0 and thus select and play a film on the NAS. I tried PLEX! Far too complicated, lots of crashes, repeated updates after which nothing worked.

Does anyone have a simple and stable solution for my request?

Does your TV not have the ability to access external media directly? If so, this would certainly be preferable.

Your wish is understandable, but even when it’s running it will always be shaky because you never know what is tested on such an app and what isn’t and with every update… well you’ve already found that out.

I would also prefer to solve this using the TV-Box. Because this is connected to my AV receiver and if I stream directly via the TV I would have to do it with the audio return channel, which causes a lot of problems for me.

Could you develop something that works with the Synology Video Station?

@grischoni

Since you have an ATV connected to the TV’s HDMI, you can also stream from any IOS device via Airplay.

So if you have an iPad or iPhone, install an Airplay-capable media player and then stream from the PC or NAS via IOS device and Airplay to the ATV.

Works stably and does not present any major technical challenges.

The reason why it probably didn’t work for you with Plex is very simple.

A NAS does not have enough processing power to handle Plex’s transcoding.

In other words, most films probably run OK, but as soon as subtitles have to be burned in, a lot of computing power is required.

I have all the files on my NAS but run the server via my gaming desktop, which has an overlocked Intel CPU. This runs at 4.2Ghz. Your NAS usually has just under 1.4Ghz, which is not enough for transcoding.

The disadvantage of my setup is that the desktop always has to be running, otherwise nothing works.

The best solution would be a server with strong computing power and enough memory.
