Wifi Calling mit Lumia 950

Hello,

According to Microsoft, the Lumia 950 supports WiFi calling ([https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mobile/support/faq/?action=singleTopic&topic=FA143885).](https://www.microsoft.com/ en-us/mobile/support/faq/?action=singleTopic&topic=FA143885).)

Is this device supported by Swisscom?

I have a Swisscom branded model with the latest official release (10.0.10586.218).

Thanks!

Arjen

In order for VoLTE and/or VoWLAN (Wifi Calling) to be used on a mobile phone, the mobile phone provider (e.g. Swisscom) must activate the mobile phone for the use of IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem):

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Multimedia_Subsystem

IMS is often referred to by Swisscom employees as “Advanced Calling” (=> Marketing):

https://www.swisscom.ch/de/privatkunden/mobile/mobilnetz/advanced-calling.html

IMS allows voice telephony (VoIP) and SMS sending/reception via IP data networks (e.g. WLAN/WiFi or LTE mobile network).

IMS does not support MMS sending/receiving over IP data networks! See also:

https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/Diskussionen-%C3%BCber-mobile-dienste/MMS-%C3%BCber-WiFi-Calling-VoWiFi/m-p/432447#M1 715

You can check under Windows 10 Mobile as follows whether the Windows mobile phone has been enabled by the mobile phone provider to use IMS:

1.) Settings => System => Info

2.) Line “IMS:” in the “Device information” section

“not registered” => no VoLTE or VoWLAN possible => mobile phone provider does not allow the use of IMS

“registered” => VoLTE and/or VoWLAN possible => mobile phone provider allows the use of IMS

Some mobile phone providers (e.g. Deutsche Telekom) allow IMS usage to be configured under:

1.) Settings => Network and WLAN => Cellular and SIM => SIM settings

2.) “IMS Registration” button in the “Advanced 4G LTE Services” section

Was in contact with Swisscom_Care about the Lumia 950 and Wifi Calling. Swisscom has canceled the promised WiFi calling support for this phone (always according to Swisscom_Care).
It would be planned, but it will not be offered for any of the current Microsoft phones.

I almost suspected that. feared. What is it actually like with VoLTE? According to the specifications in the online shop, this should actually work. Would be more important to me than WiFi calling.

I can confirm VoLTE works. But WiFi calling would be more important to me. It is otherwise difficult to make phone calls in a Minergie apartment.

How do you see whether VoLTE or Wifi calling is active?

I still have the 830. Initially, according to Swisscom, it was intended for this device because it was already compatible. But it was buried a long time ago.

But my girlfriend has the 950 XL Dual Sim with Swisscom Prepaid. Don’t these technologies exist without branding or with prepaid? I don’t see anything about VoLTE on her.

VoLTE is only available with:

NATEL® infinity, NATEL® infinity plus and NATEL® infinity 2.0 (incl. xtra infinity) or NATEL® entry (no longer available)

OK thanks.

Now if I put my sim card in my Lumia 950, what happens? Does it then do it automatically or does some configuration from Swisscom come in? I have Infinity 2.0 M.

In the past I received the answer that this should only work with a device from Swisscom (branding). Otherwise, as far as I know, it should be the case that a new configuration comes to the device through your SIM. I think a message even appears on the phone telling you to restart it. But according to information (from Swisscom) only with branding.

Unfortunately, no one from Swisscom has commented on the reasons why they don’t want to bring WiFi calling to the Lumia 950.

Windows 10 Mobile is actually a great OS, but if the carriers simply don’t want to support the features… Swisscom would rather sell expensive iDevices.

I almost suspected that it could only be done with branding. Since the dual sim is the same price as the normal one, she of course took that and it doesn’t come with branding at all.

@All

I received written confirmation from Swisscom that the Lumia 950 - regardless of where it was purchased - would support WiFi calling. The device purchased from Mobilezone has since been repaired three times because the function was not available in the menu. If the devices were definitely not supported, Swisscom would have a problem - at least in my case.

VoLTE should already be activated. As far as I know, they have put WiFi calling on hold for the Lumia.

If they have announced Wifi Calling for unbranded devices too. why not with VoLTE? Can anyone say from their own experience whether it works or not.
