Swisscom launches new TV-Box

Football fans are eagerly awaiting the 2016 European Championship. Swisscom TV Customers can now look forward to even more, because thanks to a new TV-Box they can receive individual games in Ultra High Definition (UHD) quality for the first time on “SRF zwei”. The new box will be available from tomorrow. Thanks to integrated voice search in Swiss dialect, finding content is now even easier.

Swisscom customers will be the first in Switzerland to be able to receive the broadcast of individual games on “SRF zwei” in UHD quality. You can enjoy the opening game and all games from the quarterfinals onwards in super-sharp resolution. But that’s not all: Swisscom, in collaboration with Teleclub, will broadcast two Raiffeisen Super League games every week in UHD quality starting from the 2016/17 season. This is made possible by the launch of the new UHD-capable TV-Box for Swisscom TV2.0. The box can be ordered from all Swisscom sales points from April 14, 2016.

Swisscom offers the first films in UHD in Switzerland

With the new box, a selection of UHD titles (films and documentaries) will also be available for rent at launch. The offering is constantly being expanded: the first live TV channels in UHD will probably be available from the end of May. Customers will soon be able to stream YouTube content in UHD with the new box. Thanks to the newly integrated VLC media player, you can now also watch your own videos, for example those filmed with your smartphone, in the best resolution.

“The new box is even smaller, faster and more economical and shows customers the images as sharp and brilliant as never before. As a football fan, I’m already looking forward to the games in the very best image quality,” says Dirk Wierzbitzki, Head of Swisscom Products & Marketing.
New customers will receive the new box from April 14th when they take out a Vivo package with Swisscom TV 2.0. Current TV 2.0 customers can buy the new box for 119 Swiss francs. In addition to the new TV-Box von Swisscom, the requirements for using content in UHD quality are a UHD-capable television and a minimum bandwidth of 40 Mbit/s. UHD is the successor technology to Full HD and is also called 4K because it displays four times more pixels at 3840 × 2160. The new TV-Box also supports High Dynamic Range (HDR), which, thanks to higher contrasts, enables more color depth and therefore a more natural and significantly better image quality.

Voice search – also in Swiss German

The new box also comes with a new remote control with an integrated microphone. Customers can search more easily using voice input and no longer have to type in the terms. You can search for film or program titles, actors, sports clubs or other keywords. In addition to Standard German, the voice search supports all German-speaking Swiss dialects and French - Italian will follow later this year.

Yes, I would be very interested in that too! :smileyhappy:

Thanks @Stephan_76 for the info! Then we’re excited!

Where will you be able to read the information about this?

Two questions about the new box:

1. Can the USB-IR dongle from the previous TV2.0 box also be connected to the USB port of the new box?

2. Can the new UHD box now be officially connected to the Internet box via WiFi?

Hi

1. Yes, it works

2. It’s like before, if it works, it works, if not, it doesn’t 😉

We recommend no more than 6-8 meters with direct visual contact and no walls in between.

We have two boxes in our household. Is it possible to operate one with TV 2.0 and one with UHD? Is that possible?

Yes, that is possible as long as there is enough speed on your line

Great news, but unfortunately as a long-time customer I have to shell out 119.- for the new box. It would be great if existing customers could benefit from a “free” box.

But you have a lot of added value :-)
