Take a look at the xda forums, you will find instructions there (all in English):smileywink:

Also take a look at the forum for the normal Z5, as many things work on both (except of course the specific firmware, so never a Z5 Play firmware on a Z5 Compact!).

I once tried to use the SIM from an iPhone with working VoLTE and WiFi calling in an Xperia Z5 Compact. Despite generic Android 6.0.1, the options to turn these features on do not appear. Do I need Swisscom firmware for this? If so, where/how do I get it?

Thank you very much

@percusion Thank you very much, as far as I could read from the forums it needs a custom firmware - but everyone doesn’t agree on that.

How do I get a response from Swisscom? If there is a Swisscom firmware, how do I get it (download it or have it sent in)? And then my device would be full of bloatware?

Hello everyone,

I have the Samsung S6 and S7 without Swisscom branding.

Without deep Android insights, I claim the following,

- If the menu settings for VoLTE (mobile networks) and “WLAN calls” (call settings) are available, the firmware for the provider is set up. Then the ball is in the provider’s court.

- If the entries are missing, the firmware must still be adapted by the manufacturer.

- Despite active VoLTE on the Samsung S7, it switches to 3G when making calls, so it runs smoothly.

At SALT last year I had no problems activating WiFi calling with an unbranded Samsung S6. So there is no direct connection with VoLTE, meaning both have to be activated at the same time.

Technically, calls and SMS worked perfectly, the latter should also work at Swisscom at the end of the year.

Greetings low flyers

@netclimber

The easiest way is to go to Swisscom (when purchasing). There you simply pay more for the devices and then it works. Otherwise, search for Swisscom firmware online and flash it. There remains a risk and any later warranty claims remain questionable. Possible legal aspects were discussed earlier in this format.

@HansRu

It is true that Salt does not operate “homeland security” and WiFi calling works with free devices that are offered at standard market conditions. You probably can’t understand this with pure logic:smileyhappy:. According to several articles, Swisscom has been at it in this form for a long time; Salt and foreign providers have been offering it for a long time… As we all know, hope dies last.

I don’t know how long it’s been since you tried it, but what you’re just explaining has been working for me for a few weeks. It may be that you simply have to load the most recent firmware from Sony and then it works.

Hi

The start of Volte for open market S7 / S7 edge has been postponed a bit. We have to expand our Volte platform a little faster than expected because too many devices are becoming Volte-capable at once. Sorry. But it’s coming. Promised.

Volte has been working on my unbranded S7edge since I bought it in March 16. I’m waiting for WiFiCalling

Starting today, the first open market S7/E should be activated after a subscription change or device replacement. Existing devices are made piece by piece from the beginning (no, the beginning is not the 1st at 00:00;-)) September to mid-September.

This is the current timetable. But that can still change if something comes up.

As @mstadler has already explained, a CarrierApp can be used, which can overwrite the hard-coded values in the framework without the need for a special firmware update.

Google references in issue 176370 ([https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=176370#c4](https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail? id=176370#c4)) that it is not possible for them to integrate the values of each provider individually, but the carriers can do it themselves, with reference to this page: https://source.android.com/devices/tech/config/carrier.html

It should therefore be entirely possible to retrofit the VoLTE function for any Android 6.0 device with the appropriate hardware.

Exactly, that could be easily integrated into the MySwisscom app. This knows which Android is used, on which hardware and with which subscription. This means you can place a switch there, which then writes the settings into Android. This would mean you would stick to the Android standards and not have to tinker around with the firmware, which makes no sense at all.

  • jg likes that.

@“x”#44444Oh and that without an extra firmware update? Did you receive a text message?

Now all you have to do is get the app for the Android 6.0 interface for all devices. It’s also available for iPhones…
