Sent items Outlook

  • I manage my emails primarily via Outlook, but also via webmail. When I write a reply to an email in Outlook, it is stored under Sent Items in the folder of my email address. This works 99 times out of 100. And these emails can also be found in webmail under sent. Over the last 2 years I have had the following problem on various occasions (including today):

The email sent was sent, but stored under sent Items in the Outlook folder. This folder is created above iCloud folder.

It is not possible to move the emails stored there into my folder structure.

Server message: “Invalid RFC822 syntax (no header or body found or excessive long lines)”.

As I said, the email is sent, but the email is not in the outbox on the webmail either. This only happens once in a hundred. But this one time is disturbing. My colleagues at Amico Plus couldn’t help me a year ago. I should contact Microsoft.

Does anyone here have any idea what’s going wrong, why the entire email is being filed in the wrong place and how to fix it?

    Thanks and greetings

    • Hello Bernie

I was able to fix the problem with Ricardo’s emails relatively easily:

Convert the email from HTML to RTF and save it. You can then store it in any folder or send/answer/forward it without this error message.

Here are the Instructions for Outlook 2010:

      1. Open/double-click the email
      2. Then click “Actions–>Edit message” in the ribbon
      3. Then click “Format Text” in the menu
      4. Then switch from HTML to rich text
      5. Then press the save button

I have that too here and there. Especially when I replied to an automatically generated Ricardo email.

The email “subject” is usually very long. And the error message says something similar. “Invalid RFC822 syntax (no header or body found or excessive long lines)”

Could this also be the case for you with the long subject line?

    ….keep on rockin' 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

From a distance it looks like an error in Outlook. Which Outlook version are you using? Have you installed all updates?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

    Hello Pogo

Thanks. I just tried to answer the email again. Unfortunately it’s not the length of the subject line, although that’s what was given to me as the cause of the error. Strange! I shortened this to a very short word. Without success.

How did you solve the problem for yourself?

    Keep on rockin’ sounds good.

No I haven’t. Time is simply too precious to spend 60 minutes in a queue listening to music that no one listens to anymore. And the solution at Microsoft is that the hot coal is pushed back to the provider. In the case of Bluewin from Swisscom. This Amico service from Swisscom blames the problem on Microsoft. So I’m not getting anywhere. That’s why I’m trying here.
