Change address from POP3 to IMAP

I thought I was doing something simple but NO. I want to change my wife’s address - joycegrant@bluewin.ch from POP3 to IMAP.

After an hour on Bluewin.ch, Windows Mail and other places I am getting nowhere.

Can anyone help?

what did you try?

I don’t know windows mail. But make sure to backup your mail before changing anything.

Pop3 are stored locally so make sure not to loose anything.

Thank you for your help.

But when I click the link I am directed to a page which asks me to choose automatically or manually. Whichever I choose the result is the same. I am asked to download swisscom.Email.Create_imap.exe. I download it. When I run it, after a few seconds, I get an error message saying Swisscom EinrichtungsAssistent has encountered a prroblem. The program will be closed and you will be notified if a solution is found.

I am never notified. I must have tried four or five times - result always the same.

Have you any other suggestion?

You have windows mail on windows 8?

Try to create the settings manually

Take those with SSL encryption.

Ps: the username is the mail address

Thanks. I finally succeeded but only after I deleted the account with POP3. Conclusion - there is no way to change an account from Pop3 to Imap. If you select the account, you are asked if you want to add an account or change the properties. If you select change the properties, it comes up with a screen which says at the top, my account is a Pop3 account and there is no way to change this.

Anyway problem solved. Thanks for your help.

Having similar problems. Seems that POP accounts will always override imap accounts, in my case a pop account still sitting on another computer on the network
I would be interested to know if you lost any mails, either in your folders or in box when you deleted the old account
