VPN Service (OpenVPN)

hello to anyone listening,

I have setup openvpn on a server at home. A (dnsd.me) domain points to my Swisscom external IP and when I connect from my local subnet, it works. When I try to connect over the web (at work or on a public wifi, with no port restrictions), it doesn’t work. It works on the home network because it does not traverse the web, even though I am using a dynamic DNS - I confirmed this with traceroute.

The Motorola router has port forwarding enabled and configured correctly.I am clueless.

Motorola Netopia 7647-47 VDSL Modem (Model Number 7647-47)

Firmware is 9.0.10h2d8.

Any suggestions? Prayers welcome too.

The dyndns registers properly? E.g. ping on your hostname corresponds to what, say, myip.dk tells you?

tcp or udp? Do you see any connection attempts in your OpenVPN logs when you try to connect from outside?

tcp or udp?I tried both. Currently configured for TCP.

Actually, I discovered that even locally I cannot start my client daemon, it cannot connect. Connection refused.

The config file is fine.

The ovpn client, on the other hand, seems to work. It connects and I get assigned an IP. But only when in my local subnet. Cannot connect from outside…

When running on tcp, did you try portscan on your port from outside?

no. how would I go about doing that? Sounds like a plan.

I called Swisscom yesterday and they suggested I use IP Passthough instead of Port Forwarding. So I did. No difference. Connection is still refused. I had to pay for that advice too.

Every line in the client config file is fine, I just don’t understand why it refuses the connection. DNS works. And why does the OVPN client file work when running on Windows internally on the network. Nothing makes much sense here….
