How to connect the internet to ethernet

Hello community.

We are moving house in 2 weeks time which has been enabled with ethernet box in every room; these little boxes have a LAN connection and a telephone connection.

The question is what I need a the point of entry into the house. Some say I can just connect the Swisscom WLAN router and use the WLAN function. I am not sure if the WLAN will be strong enough as it enters the house on the top floor. Also, with Vivo Casa **** the landline phone needs to be connected to the router.

Other say I need a LAN router with multiple exit ports, connect this to the internet coming into the house and connect it also to the 6 LAN boxes so that I end up with 6 different option to connect the WLAN router through the house. I hope I describe this correctly.

I find it confusing😐 to understand what is needed to make it work throughout the house. Any help is much appreciated.

1st, you have to take the official Swisscom WLAN-Router Centro Grande

2nd, you have to install the Router at the central distribution room for all connections. I hope, there is a patchfield with all connections to the rooms and also the landline connection….

3rd, you have to patch all conections from the Router ports (4x LAN and 1x phone) to the desired ports of the patchfield

4th, if you dont’ have enough LAN-Ports at the Router, you have to add the official 5-Port switch from Swisscom to expand the numbers of LAN-Ports

5th, for better WLAN connections in the whole house, you can install some additional WLAN-APs in the desired room(s)

Hi POGO 1104, thanks for the reply.

I have receive the Centro Grande and unpacked it tonight.

After the move in about 1.5 weeks, I think I have now a fair understanding of how to connect it.

I have also received a letter from Swisscom today, advising me to ask an electrician to take a look to ensure the connections into the house are connected correctly. As we are the first tenants, this apparently needs to be checked. Does this has to be a Swisscom electrician or can I ask any other?

Once all is installed we will have to find out if the WLAN is strong enough to cover the complete house. We should know quickly then and can install some additional WLAN APs where needed.
